REMEMBERING JOHN PECKHAM

28 March 2025|News

Tomorrow, we take a moment to honour and remember John Peckham, a true gentleman of the game and an irreplaceable part of the Cadbury Athletic family. John was our founder, a Cadbury employee and a proud union rep, he played a crucial role in establishing the club. His passing has left an indelible mark on Cadbury Athletic, but his vision for a community-oriented, family-driven football club lives on. John, much like George Cadbury himself, understood the importance of providing a space for the working-class community to come together, share experiences, and build lasting connections. John was more than just a supporter of the club—he was its heart and soul. Whether on the touchline, in the clubhouse, or behind the scenes, his unwavering dedication and passion for grassroots football were an inspiration to all who knew him. He gave his time selflessly, always ensuring that players, supporters, and visitors alike felt welcome at the Recreation Ground.

As we take to the pitch for the final game of our 30th season, we do so in his memory. We invite all supporters to join us in a minute’s applause before kick-off to celebrate John’s incredible contribution to Cadbury Athletic to and the wider football community. Further to this the club have plans in place to introduce an annual John Peckham Memorial Game, and our Senior Club Man of the year award at our annual awards evening will be renamed the John Peckham Award ensuring that his memory lives on in his football club.

Thank you, John, for everything you have done for Cadbury Athletic and for the countless lives you touched along the way.

Rest in peace, and forever Up the Chocolate Men.
